There are the thugs who are chronically failing classes who are allowed to remain on campus past the age of 18. They negatively influence other kids so they begin talking about drugs and achieve less academically.

I don’t know what it is but no matter how many free opportunities are put in front of our students such as paid internships, free help with the FAFSA, scholarships etc, 98% will never take the opportunities put in front of them. That is not teachers, that is parents and the horrible environment that is South LA that encourages underachievement. That’s the cold hard truth.

If it will make you feel better to blame me and my colleagues, go ahead. If you want to dismantle laws that protect my academic freedom to teach the few kids who do want to learn, have had it. If you want to bring in 24 year olds with 5 weeks of training from TFA, well, ok.

Just realize it just won’t solve the problems you refuse to recognize.
