Who better to represent students with disabilities than an adult with disabilities. There is nothing wrong with his mind and that’s what scares charter interests. He speaks the truth about their discrimination of these students and they can’t stand it. The forum was unfair and a possible “gotcha” set up by United Way. Packing the audience with bussed in supporters doesn’t mean it’s an unbiased, open and honest debate.

Examples? and what was his salary, bonus and other investment take on the on the PUC deal not to mention his bonus.
RR isn’t qualified to lead nor can he hold a candle to the more seasoned and effective leadership of Bennet Kayser.
RR is more of the same of Monica Garcia, Caprice Young, et al that lie and say they are “reformers” when I fact they are destroyers of traditional public schools. RR probably has support from the “group” that operates the troubled Magnolia Schools and their lobbying arm of Pacifica Institute where Monica and Caprice have given talks.

Kayser said he would be there and he pulled out. Voters deserve to hear why he thinks he should get a second term… pulling out of a debate at the last minute just because he doesn’t want to face the charter school supporters in the room is ridiculous.

Greed? No greed at all. He is caring and is very concerned about each and every student in district 5. He just wants to give them the best education that they can receive. Us the children of District 5 need someone that is going to hear our voices and our concerns. Not someone that doesn’t hear our concerns, or just hears them, but doesn’t do anything about them.

Debates are designed to give voters insight on who they can trust and vote accordingly. We the voters gave questions to the candidate (Dr. Rodriguez)we wanted answered. Dr. Rodriguez did a wonderful job at answering questions and I’m sure won over the voters initially backing Kayser. Would Obama have won presidency has he not shown for his debate ?! I THINK NOT!! Why is Kayser so afraid to answer questions in front of the public… Very shady

Just concerned for the best possible representation for all the kids in the district, latino, black and white.

Shill, talking about someone’s personal medical issues is very low class, and has nothing to do with your staged debate with probably pre loaded questions that Senor Rodriquez who suffers from the “savior complex” has (he is there for the latino and black disadvantaged students) He also suffers from greed.

Scheduling conflicts do happen, and given that the sponsors of these so-called “debates” are major financiers of charter schools promoter Ref Rodriiguez via Alicia Lara ….it hardly seems like a neutral place to have a fair balanced debate. Ref Rodriguez wants to play nasty and underhanded and that has no place on any school board. This only proves he will be more inclined to be the puppet for those charter schools stuffing money in his pocket.

I am not a charter school operator, just a citizen. I feel very sorry for Mr. Kayser having Parkinson’s, but I have a close relative who is a victim of this disease and I know the mental and physical toll it exerts on you. I just want to the kids of Mr. Kayser’s district have the best possible representation.

yes i know of his disability but that should not be an excuse to not perform as needed and especially not to be visible and available to the community for info and engagement. we should really be wondering if he can do the job.

Schedule A of CA Form 460 for Rodriguez ID 1373930, filing period ending 12/31/2014).

What could possibly be more important than meeting the voters and answering questions? Blowing off the hosts, sponsors and guests of this debate at the last minute is high-handed and insulting. It’s like voting “abstained.”

Ableism much? I suppose that’s endemic throughout the lucrative charter sector.

I’m glad you’ve determined that the only venue for voters to learn about candidates is through these highly manipulative events hosted by groups funded by the Broad Foundation. I suppose there might be others whose critical thinking skills would indicate to them that they aren’t being “deprived” by not attending these less-than-credible UWGLA forums.

If he has Parkinson’s such that he cannot debate, then I question the energy and focus he can bring to this very important job.

As I understand it, there were to be three debates for District 5. Kayser has now dropped out of two, thus depriving voters of hearing him in person.
A debate forum is a debate forum. If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Did I say Kayser shouldn’t have to run? I don’t see anywhere that could be reasonably inferred, or implied in what I wrote.

UWGLA does nothing for the greater community, unless by “community” you mean Eli Broad, Richard Riorden, and Casey Waserman. UWGLA is doing this in order to put their candidates (specifically those with the biggest financial stake in the lucrative charter school industry) in the best possible light. Given UWGLA’s dubious history in the school privatization project, this isn’t surprising, nor was Roldan’s phony indignation.

Candidate forums held by grassroots organizations, and the community would have been useful. Instead, these carefully staged events by the best funded organizations in the non-profit industrial complex are basically forums for neoliberalism.

United Way is sponsoring this debate for the greater L.A. community, so it can have a chance to hear the candidates in person. Are you saying Bennett Kayser shouldn’t have to run??
