Not only is it potentially more informative and a lot less expensive, but UTLA will benefit from some soul-searching about that low turnout, for this and other meaningful reasons. We’d gain from an approach to member development that includes people for whom school is actually going well, and there are some: magnet school teachers, those in affluent schools, suburban schools. What do they care about, and how can UTLA provide it? The million dollar question.
