She’s pushed this $1 billion technology plan as hard as anyone in LAUSD. She claims that there is a litany of inaccurate reports in the news media about it and that the daunting list of questions regarding its efficacy have already been answered.

But she’s never been specific about what those inaccurate reports are nor has she addressed potential problems at any board meeting I’ve watched. It’s one thing to make blanket statements and another to back them up.

How many of us actually believe that this iPad project is “fiscally conservative”? Particularly when there are so many repair requests that haven’t been handled across the district. I’d rather have my students learn in a classroom with adequate air conditioning and heating before I give them overpriced iPads that, despite Supt. Deasy’s claims to the contrary, are NOT necessary for them to take the upcoming Common Core Standards tests.

Frankly, I’m glad Ms. Galatzan has resigned her chairmanship. Her kind of fiscal management we don’t need..

I think he’ll do an excellent job and nothing is more important than understanding where the money is going. The board needs to have a very deep understanding of the expenses because right now Deasy is controlling the discussion. Somehow there’s money for all of Deasy’s priorities in the budget while saying there’s no money left for the board’s — and the public’s — priorities.

Galatzin says, “There are dozens of budget meetings being held throughout the school district,” but I only know of five that have been announced to the public. Does she know something we don’t? Or does she not know what she’s talking about? It’s telling that she showed up for the budget meeting in her district, stood in the back playing with her phone for a little while then left before her constituents made their public comments and questions for 40 minutes. Zimmer and Ratliff were both there, listened and then spoke to the group.
