Brown’s Veto Leaves Teacher Dismissal in Limbo* https://www.laschoolreport.com/gov-browns-veto-leaves-teacher-dismissal-in-limbo/ What's Really Going on Inside LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District) Fri, 14 Feb 2014 04:48:17 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.1 By: Susan Graham https://www.laschoolreport.com/gov-browns-veto-leaves-teacher-dismissal-in-limbo/#comment-500 Mon, 14 Oct 2013 16:50:42 +0000 http://laschoolreport.com/?p=15587#comment-500 50% of teachers voluntarily walk away from a pension, health benefits with few copays and about 3 months off a year. These aren’t teachers who are forced out- they quit. Like one I just know who left the district after 11 years due to being sick of teaching and all the accompanying stresses. She is damn good at her job.

So wouldn’t it be prudent to find a way to keep teachers in the classroom instead of constantly looking for ways to terrorize them?

And funny, no one is talking about bringing back laid off teachers to fill the many currently “unfilled” positions the district has..they aren’t even putting displaced teachers in these positions at times.

And don’t look now but teacher credential programs are fast losing applicants. Where will the next group of teachers come from? I think many teachers will put off retiring just because second jobs in retirement are not that easy to come by so the exodus will not be immediate but about 5 years away.

Your article is an example of having priorities ass backward so to speak.

You can’t let those who want to weaken this for personal gain get their way. This will encourage someone to do it right!
